Supercop
(1992)
|
Synopsis:
This is the third installment of the Police Story series. Jackie returns
to the role of Kevin Chan Ka Kui, and Maggie Cheung repeats her role as
his girlfriend May. This time Ka Kui is working undercover to break up
an international drug ring. He is teamed up with a mainland police
officer, played by Micelle Yeoh as a straight-laced, by the book cop.
Together they follow the crooks to Malaysia, where May is kidnapped, and
Ka Kui and Hannah (Yeoh) are coerced into breaking the drug kingpin’s
wife out of a prison truck to keep her from testifying against her
husband. Debbie's Review: As a Police Story sequel, this
breaks away from the feel of the first two. Although certain characters
are repeated (Ka Kui, May, Uncle Bill) the emphasis is away from Hong
Kong and it has a more international scope to it. The tone of this one
is mostly serious, though, much like the first two in the series. The
stunts in Supercop are positively hair-raising. Each time I watch this
one I can only hope that these stunts are not as dangerous as they look,
because they are terrifying to watch.
Furthermore, the amazing Michelle Yeoh matches Jackie stunt for
stunt: she hangs off the back of a wildly careening bus in and out of
traffic in downtown Kuala Lumpur, he jumps from the top of a skyscraper
onto the ladder of a helicopter, and then gets smashed into a variety of
Kuala Lumpur tourist attractions; she jumps a motorcycle onto a moving
train, he performs a harrowing series of acrobatic fighting moves on top
of the same moving train (falling off at one point, but grabbing onto a
railing in the nick of time). This movie is definitely more stunt-based
than fight-based, with a lot more in the way of gunplay than you
normally see in a Chan film. And it’s the only time in Jackie’s
action career that he comes close to being up-staged by a woman, and
nobody but Yeoh could pull off a stunt like that! As a side note, there is an outtake of a stunt-gone-wrong where Jackie is slammed into a helicopter on board an onrushing train. While reviewing this outtake for his A&E Biography episode, he made the beautifully understated comment: “THAT one hurt!” Don't confuse this movie with the deceptively titled Supercop 2, starring Michele Yeoh, repeating her character from Supercop. Jackie has only a very small cameo in Supercop 2, but it sure packs a wallop! Score: 8/10
KUNG FU SUPERCOP's Review: Amazing, awesome, masterpeice is all the words to describe supercop. One of Chans best films. The sory is about jackie chan who goes undercover as a friend of bad man named Panther. Then he goes to his village and stanley tong is undercover as his grandma and his sister is undercover as michelle yeoh. There are lots of martial arts and gun batles n this film (just like Fantasy mission force).Panther soon realises that Chan is a policeman and then they get into a fight. This is a greaat sequel to police story and police story 2.There is no best Chan film there is just tons of superb ones like legend of the drunken master,Fantasy mission force, police story, shanghai knights(ETC) I will give this a 10/10 Score: 10/10
Chan-o-rama's Review: Just like all the other Police Stories, this one was great! The difference in this one though is that Jackie is cast as a sort of John Rambo character, causing explosions and shooting machine guns. On the other hand, Jackie's magnificant fighting skills are displayed quite well. The helicopter stunt at the end shows Jackie's true dedication to his job. A great movie! Score: 8.5/10
HERVEY TAYLOR's Review: Simply
Amazing!! The police Story series keeps getting better. Though it's not
like the original Police Story, Police stoory is no Supercop either. Score: 9/10
Steven Neal's Review: This movie is
without a doubt the greatest action packed sequel to the Police Story
series. Jackie Chan has definitely carved a name for himself in the
history of hard-core action heroes. The best things I liked about this
movie was the plot, the stunts, the characters, and the non-stop
slapstick action that came with it. The best part of this movie is that
Jackie gets a female partner that can kick the crap out of anyone just
as good as he can. Score: 10/10
Ojje's review: LLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE this movie its my favorite chan movie ever except from police story the helicoter stunt is as good as the bus stunt in police story and what great stunts from michelle even better form than she was in tommorow never dies. Joe's Review: First Jackie movie I bought, and I loved it. Great action, just great. Score: 8/10
Brendan's Review: I LOVE the Police Story series, and this is another fantastic effort. The fights are brilliant, but are out-done by the unbelievable stuntwork. Michelle Yeoh brings so much to this film- It is truly awesome. See the Hong Kong version though-it's better. A bit of gunplay and killing, which is unusual for a Jackie film, but this is the DEFINITION of a truly great action sequel. More of them, please Jackie!!!! Score: 8.5/10
Adam JC fan's Review: This was a good big action movie. I liked The fight and action scenes. Michelle Yeoh and Jackie make a perfect team. Score: 9/10
Oliver's
Review: Supercop... or police story 3...Jackie is more a supercop in those two police story movies before this. This is a police story but you can see that
Jackie is going for a bit more comedy... this is a very good movie... and it is the third police story with one of his best stunts ever but the fighting scene is not one of the best. This one is 80% police story 1 and 2 and 20% police story 4 Score: 8.5/10 |
